SOCIO ECONOMIC TENSIONS IN IOWA?
Since moving to Sioux City a small agricultural and retail based city in western iowa with a pop about 80000 I have noticed there is a lot of socio economic tensions between classes. The economy here is based on agriculture, medical, retail, and restraunts. The tension is mostly between the middle class both upper and lower and working class. Almost to the point of hatred on both ends. I have never seen been exposed to something like this. I grew up in a working class family in Chicago and we did have this type of socio economic tensions, at least not in my neighborhood. In Chicago, it was usually racial or cultural tensions, not class. Why is there so much class prejudice in Sioux City?I have never been to Eastern Iowa, except when driving through, so I can not make a reference on wether Sioux City and Cedar Rapids are different. What Im asking is the difference between Sioux City and Chicago in reference too socio economic relations. I will admit that people here are very poor, and I mean poor 40 year old men working for 10 an hour poor. Of course then I most say many Iowans have a hard to grasping the fact that most people dont buy school clothes at Walmart. LOL

Looting was rampant in New Orleans and now there are tons of reports of looting in Haiti. When the massive floods destroyed much of Iowa a few years back, I didn't see one case of looting. It's not gangs, because the looting in Haiti and New Orleans wasn't done by gangs, it was done by normal every day people. It wasn't wealth because there are a lot of poor people in Iowa that live in a dinky farm. So what was it? What's the difference between New Orleans Haiti and Iowa? Thanks in advance

Hello I wrote my essay about homosexual rights in the US I'm from Germany and I wrote there, that gay marriage was allowed in Iowa I had sources for that, too, but I don't remember them right now . But last week I had an exchange student from Iowa here who told me that it was previously legal there, but that there was something like the proposition 8 in California where the inhabitants of Iowa decided that gay marriage would not be legal anymore. She wasn't sure though as she wasn't really interested in this topic. I now looked on the site of the human rights campaign, and there it is said " Iowa HJR 6Proposes a constitutional amendment, to be agreed to by 2 consecutive general assemblies and ratified by a majority of voters, that would provide that marriage between one man and one woman shall be the only legal union valid or recognized in this state. Iowa SB 353Would recognize marriage for lesbian and gay couples under state law." what does that mean now? above all what does " HJR 6" and " SB 353" mean ?I'm really confused about this now O.o Kevin Yes, that's what I found out, too but what do these numbers behind Iowa mean then?
What would be a good hotel to stay in to watch Dubuque, Iowa 3rd of July Fireworks?
We are thinking about going out to Dubuque this July 3rd and wanted to know if there is a hotel close to the fireworks? Reviewing the Dubuque site, I am sure that going down to Lock and Dam 11 would be the closest, but my father in law is getting a procedure done a few days before at Mayo and is not going to be able to walk very far. Any ideas where we can get a great view, but stay close to where we would be staying in the hotel? Thanks for your help.
