Did you know a 50 year old man can legally marry a 12 year old girl in massachusetts?

Question: Did you know a 50 year old man can legally marry a 12 year old girl in massachusetts?

(Posted by: hello on 2010-07-12 05:08:50)

The legal age of marriage for a woman in Massachusetts is 12 (with parental consent) right now in the year 2010. So why do you find it so hard to imagine that 1500 years ago it was SOCIALLY ACCEPTABLE for a 50 year old man to marry a 10 year old woman? This happened all over the world.... not just in Arab society.. Look up the average age of marriage for a woman before the 1800s in America and England.. It is 11 years old! (which means some girls were getting married before the age of 11). I'm not condoning it... I think it is WRONG and DISGUSTING but just saying that Muhammad wasn't the only person to marry a 10 year old.... It was VERY COMMON. He married his first wife Khadija when he was 25 and she was 45. He was monogamous and faithful to her and she was his TRUE LOVE. Only after her death did he marry other women. After the age of 50 he married 10 wives and all were HIS AGE OR OLDER except for Aisha who was 9 or 10 yrs old and Safia and Maria who were 13- 15 yrs old. He could have married a hundred 10- year olds if he wanted to because he was very influential and powerful and a lot of people did ask him to wed their daughters but he declined... He only married women which Allah had chosen for him. LOOK IT UP IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE ME

It is NOT 12, it is 18, and a court of law would only approve a younger couple getting married if she were pregnant and charges were not being filed against the male for statutory rape. a 12 year old girl is not capable of having a real relationship, she does not have the maturity level or ability to care for a family. Does a 12 year old boy have the ability to get a drivers license and hold a 40 hr a week job to care for a wife? Any man that would even consider it , is a complete pile of trash. @ use your brain- I read NO where in the new testament that Mary was 12. No justification for child molesters. Even Jesus spoke against it. Sorry, you are wrong.

Just to cover up your guilt and shame about what your prophet did is no excuse for making up lies about pedophilia been legal in america Mohammad was a disgusting chap and so are all dirty pedos

Now we know what happened to Irish Girl. She was Mohammadized.

I don't care if it's legal in Massachusetts. That's just another place where something completely f*cked up is socially acceptable. Showing another example of a bunch of sick f*cks doesn't make your prophet any less a sick f*ck.

It's really getting old watching you creeps try to justify this garbage every day. At what point will you realize that you're not getting anywhere and just get over it? Most people in Mass. probably don't even realize that law is still on the books. And we have no problem with changing our laws - you folks will never change your sick viewpoint that it's OK, cause he was "the prophet ". Tired of wasting time on you troglodytes, I'm going to go draw dirty pictures of Muhammad...

1. Girls around 10 years old married before because people didn't live long. The usual marriage age about a thousand years ago could be 16. 2. Also, I feel if a man and a woman love each other. Then it shouldn't be considered pedophilia. It isn't right to tell people who they should and shouldn't love.

They forget also the age of Mary (bless upon her) when she gave birth to Jesus (bless upon him).

The thing is, Muhammed is supposed to be the prophet of God. If we can reason in this day and age that a 50 year old marrying a 12 or 10 year old is wrong, then certaintly the all powerful and all knowing creator of the universe would also know this. The fact that Allah chose a 10 year old for him doesn't exactly help your case.

He only married women which Allah had chosen? And how, exactly did Allah point them out? Its bullshit and its sick and anywhere it happens, its equally sick.

I don't know about the law in Massachuset's but you do have a point. People are judging an 8th Century situation by 21st Century standards and it isn't really fair. At that time most people were dead by the time they were 30... IF they were one of the 50% that survived childhood. This means that by a time most people were 10 years old 1/ 3 of their life was already over. Things were VERY different 1,300 years ago. The reason people bring this up is because they are trying to "demonize " Islam but it doesn't really work because it isn't a fair or reasonable argument for the reasons stated. There are plenty of other reasons not to like religions but this one isn't really fair. I am not a fan of Islam because there is so much misunderstanding about its origins. For me it isn't so much that I am "against Islam " for me it is more that I am FOR the historically accurate truth which unfortunately is not well known enough to stop some of the nonsense being done in the name of many religions. Most Muslims are clueless that the origin of the Koran goes back to the Torah and the Bible and most Christians are clueless that parts of the Old Testament are from the Torah or other aspects of the Koran or Bible. Archeology is the key to the truth here and not enough people know it. Btw: not a Christian, not a Jew, not an atheist.

Where did you hear this? You are WRONG "Licenses and Permits Marriage The legal age to marry in Massachusetts is 18 (M.G.L. ch. 207, s. 33A). All people who marry in the state must have a marriage license issued in Massachusetts by any city or town clerk (M.G.L. ch. 207, s. 28). Check with the Clerks office directly as the requirements and fees change community to community. The following link lists all Massachusetts communities.
