Question: Why do some people think mississippi and the people that live there are horrible and dumb?

I just saw a skit from a Saturday Night Live skit and they were pretty much putting down on Mississippi and the people in it. Thats not the only show on tv i've seen doing that, especially on how stupid and lazy the people are. Laziness and stupidity is in every state so why put it off on Mississippi. I mean i get the redneck thing but seriously whats the deal? Share your thoughts.

It is illegal for TV shows to make fun of people based on race, gender, or religion. However, shows still want to find someone "different " to make fun of. They choose southerners because most TV shows are made in New York or California. The show makes fun of southerners because the show can't be sued for it, like if they made fun of blacks or latinos. I think it is rude and stupid to make fun of anyone for any reason. Making fun of people who are different from you or live in a different place makes no sense.

I hate to be rude but I think they say this because it's true. Last year, I went on a family vacation there and the people there seemed so unintelligent and stuck in the past. I would never want to live there.

I think its because when you think of mississippi this is the stereo type about it thats been around for years...

RT@ thinks for herself... Did you talk to anyone or just make a stupid judgement based on appearances? Some people, just like every state in the US, are stuck in the past and unintelligent. I don't know how you would make the assumption that they are dumb unless you had a conversation with them, which I doubt you did. BTW, we have one of the top universities in the south that has alumni including: John Grisham, Jim barksdale, William Faulkner and Bill Parsons. If you don't know who those people are maybe YOU are the dumb one.
