I am currently undecided about which city in Oregon to move to. I was also looking at Salem and possibly a City closer to Portland. I have a career that mixes my nurseing degree, sociology, research and administrative skills therefore, I am looking for a job at a University, hospital, or something similar .I live in California, but I am ready to leave in the next 5 months. I appreciate everyone's answers and ask that you are specific as to why you believe the state is the best choice. I am a single mother, and my family is " mixed" with European and Black. I am looking for these qualities in the state neighborhood Affordable living better than Calif Good job market I am currently in research administration , good schools, low crime neighborhood, diversity I would like to see a mixture of different ethnicities, but it is more important for the ideology of the people to be accepting open of differences , and opportunities to get outdoors to hike, skate, or have family outings. I have a problem. I bought my mom tickets for the Mount hood Railroad murder mystery dinner for next Saturday 07 31 2010. The problem is that I was looking at the reviews today and they were all bad. What the reviews were describing was not something my mother would like to do at all.She already knows that we are doing something that day, but she does not know what. I need to find something else equally as fun that a mother daughter can do together. My mom is super conservative so I can not take her to a bar or anything raunchy...think innocent family fun. Here in Portland, Oregon, there is a group of black men that stands on street corners with a little amplifier and yells stuff. One guy wears all white. The others wear all black. They all have head wraps on. I wouldn't exactly call them turbans. It looks more like they could have dreads under there.So, they look super angry and they generally stand in the way, like one the corner right where people have to wait to cross the street. The guy in white has a microphone. They're really mad and they're out there all day.Does anyone know what that's all about? I don't want to ask them myself because they don't seem friendly.Mr. K, I could be wrong, but since all of them are black, they're angry, and they're yelling on the corner in the ghetto, I don't think they want brownies from a white lady.I could try...I'm a minority in my neighborhood.Yeah, Mad Professor, I've seen LOTS of street preachers.
