Question: Gay and in tennessee....should i come out?

I live in a small conservative town near the appalachin mtns my family has a pretty open mind but all the people at my school are rednecks we dont have a single black person or any gays the only gay guy is a senior so should i come out? Oh forgot something im 15 a freshman

You could try testing the waters within your own family (as long as you could make certain they won't run around telling everybody). Otherwise, if you don't feel comfortable or safe talking to anybody, it might be best to keep it under wraps for a little while longer.

Noooooo. u might get seriously hurt. just move away.. america isn't only the small town n tennessee!! seriously!!!!!!!!!!!!!! go to LA or San diego... be gay some were were you are less prone to get hung, or attacked or abused.

Yo, fellow Tennessean. Sounds like you're clear across the state from me, though. I don't think anybody high school aged or younger should come out, but especially considering where you live...if you come out to anybody, just tell your family, if you're sure they'd be open-minded about it. To me, no one else really matters as far as knowing anyway. High school is hard enough.

Uh ya what people do in the privacy of there own home falls under the category of being there business but you coming out FOR WHAT? Exactly? To get a pat on the back or ? you get paid money ? what ? I sure the hell don't run around telling people I had sex with my girlfriend maybe I should come out huh? HEY I'M STRAIGHT deal with it gay people and there coming out keep that chit to yourself and i'll keep my chit to myself and will all just get along fine

I cant tell you wheather you should come out or not. It all depends on your perspective. If your ready to tell people, That can only be decided by you. Me, Ive told people, but not my parents. So it all depends on what you are comfortable with, who you want to tell. Being 15, Some people may say its a "phase " when really you may know its not. But some downfalls to coming out are rejection, Ridicule, and that could sometimes lead to depression. But a plus side to coming out is that you dont have to hide part of who you are from people.
