Question: Religiously ruminatingâ„¢ will visiting religious in-laws in salt lake city utah really suck? (Posted by: Bob Bâ„¢ on 2010-01-06 12:21:15) Incidentally, they're LDS (Mormon) and I am not. Inanimate Phoenix lives there? On second thought, I might stay a few extra nights! As a non- LDS I'm not allowed in the temple, so they've already told me that there's plenty to see on the outside (?) of the temple. (Why would I want to see the outside of *their* temple that I'm not even allowed inside of?) |

Posted by: MissDementia on 2010-01-06, 12:33:15 Actually, Salt Lake City is the CLEANEST city in the US I've ever seen. It was like Singapore, but without all the Asian folks. Do not worry about blending in or anything. The worst that will happen when you're out and about is someone may pull their children closer or start to panic a bit if you are what they deem "frightening " (had that happen a couple times - how could anyone be afraid of ME?) but they were very polite for the most part. The reason I'm telling you about the city is because the religious outlaws you are going to visit will indeed inflict much suckage into your life while you are there and you'll end up wandering the streets listlessly, like a well dressed homeless chap, just to escape the eternal vacuum of suck known as proselytizing. Be happy that non-LDS people aren't allowed in the temple (I don't think) so if they're Mormon they won't be pushing you to go to church with them. That's IF they're highly religious, of course. If they're not.... meh. Bring an MP3 player and a bunch of books. It's what I would do. (and smuggle in some booze....) |

Posted by: kathy s on 2010-01-06, 12:25:43 I think it will be very fun and very scarey at the same time. Maybe you will get to see some of the national parks - they're beautiful. Visit the Mormon Tabernacle and museum. Then go home and be glad you don't live there. |

Posted by: Lady Winter Wolf on 2010-01-07, 05:56:09 Welcome to Utah; SLC is about 6 hours away from me, and there's a great pagan community up there. As to the LDS temple, just nod and smile and get it over with; but I'm surprised they're not trying to convert you. |
