Question: What is life like if you are black living in utah? (Posted by: Nix on 2010-02-01 01:03:33) What problems do you run into? are there any great benefits? how are you treated? how do you feel? this is for a project in school about diversity. I personally am not black of African American but i have to basically be this person for three weeks but need some kind of info. anything would help. |

Posted by: Desiree` on 2010-02-01, 01:55:24 Ive only visited utah once, and im half black. it was really really bad. i mean, everyone was staring at me and my sister walking down the street like we were from another planet. it took us like an hr to get our food because they didnt want to serve us, the moms would pull their kids away..man it was really humiliating, i felt like crying. i didnt know people were still like that. im from cali, which is a melting pot, so it was a big wakeup call for me. but some people were really kind, i think they knew we were really having a hard time. i really appreciated that. i gave them all gifts before we left. i guess a lot has to do with the way they were brought up. but either way, i feel bad for any black person who lives there, i mean we are only half black (we look mixed) and we got a cold shoulder from the whole town! its creepy and theres definitely a bad feeling towards outsiders, i didnt feel safe. (btw: we were staying in mt. pleasant, and wow- i was really shocked about the amount of polygomy and incest that was going on, it was really like another world in there) |
